Of the large anomalies, probably none is better known than John’s placement of the cleansing of the temple in John 2 rather than during Holy Week. But there are many subtler anomalies, illustrated, for example, by the debates surrounding John’s calendar of events surrounding the cross. Does John have Jesus die on Passover? How can his dates be sorted out so as to make sense of the Synoptic witness? Theologically? By appealing
